Last day of camp! There was little skateboarding on our day 5… I think we were all a bit tired.. But we had fun none the less…

We watched some good skate movies, played hide-and-seek, looked for bugs and played music in the morning… followed that with lunch and a workshop on the history of Skateboarding given by our all time oldie Danny Poole who used to work at Outer Limitz a few years back…

Since it was so hot,  we pulled out some tarp and made a huge slip-and-slide…forgot the boards and got wet for a good few hours!

After that we cleaned up, changed into dry clothes and prepared for our end of camp BBQ. It was great! parents, kids and all the gnats in the neighborhood were in attendance…

Here are some pics from day 5! We will be working on a photo album with the best of the 5 days worth of photos and will email that to you as soon as it gets ready.

Time is definitely flying at camp… with one more day under our belts, I can say with confidence everyone is having a great time and getting some quality time with their skateboards…

In the morning at day 4, we focused on some personal skill development with he kids. Boe and Bryan each followed our skaters around coaching each with specific tips and techniques… with visible results. I’m sure you will all notice that on our last day of camp at the BBQ blow-out. Then, Boe gave the beginners a demonstration on gripping boards.

The workshop on day 4 was about the park. More specifically, we talked about running a skate park, the shop and all the things we do to maintain the place running… We followed that with a hands on inspection of all the ramps. We painted rusty corners, tightened loose bolts and waxed grind rails…  With some extra time in hand, we got back to making some stencils… We got walls, the ground and some boards all stenciled…

At 4pm we all got some fruit sorbet to cool off a little (it was over 85f here). Eventually we all got together and helped clean up the park and prepare for the next day – which, in hind-sight, we should have considered doing that from day 1…. Oh well… I guess we are all learning something at camp.

What a day… Clearly the mid point of camp… The gnats were out and the sun was shinning hard on us… Worst of all, we were without power for most of the day. The kids took it all in stride. We shifted some of the activities around to make up for the fact we had no DVD player or music (for the rest/down time)…

After all was said and done, we skated a whole lot, managed get all the beginners to learn how to put a skateboard together AND got our silkscreen/stencil workshop on… I’m sure you saw your kid’s new camp shirt…

We are a bit late on this update since we were without power for most of the day yesterday…

On our day two of camp, we took the time to review all the stuff we covered with the beginners on our first day and pushed the advanced kids towards the goals set on Monday… For our workshop, we finished up the ramps (24ft. bank and two 8ft. boxes) and got to skate them for the rest of the day…

We also had a visit from Little Lee who is in town for a while. Little Lee is sponsored by AlienWorkshop (ask your kid what that is) and he put out a great show for everyone… After that and some snacks, it was just free skate time…

WOW! Day one at camp was great!

We had a wet start due to the heavy rains last night but we broke the squeegee (I know, we only have one) out and got the day started with little to no delay… it was all crazyness from there.

After a brief introduction, we got to warm up, suit up and finally, finally everyone got to skate. Boe and Chris were assigned to the beginners and Bryan and Bavik worked with the advanced crew.

Since this was the first day of camp, we set some personal goals for the week and set out to get them reached…

By 1pm we had our first workshop of the day – provided by Bryan Nettles of Cold Blood Adventures and his many reptilians… Around 2:30pm we switched focus to the lower part of the park where Jared (Bod the Builder) Driver gave the kids a hands-on workshop on building two grind boxes.

By around 4pm most of us were already spent! So we got some rest and played a round or two of Skate on the x-box and watched some crazy skate video… Some got a second wind and skated all the way until 6pm!

Thanks much to Cold Blood Adventures for the awesome show with reptiles… Just so you know, Bryan puts out a very cool and informative show with snakes, lizards turtles and more. You may want to consider his services for your next birthday party or any event involving children of all ages…

I would also would like to extend my gratitude to Jared for his work with the kids on the ramps we built today. Jared often works on our ramps (old and new) and would be happy (I’m sure) to extend his services beyond Woody’s… So, if your kid needs a mini ramp (small half pipe) or anything else that can be skated on, or, if you are in need of some general carpentry work around the house of backyard, let us know… (email us at skate@woodys.skatethatshit.com) and we will put you in touch with him.

The parade, as you must have heard or seen, was AWESOME.

There are lots of pictures and videos popping out everywhere, showing Savannah skaters taking to the streets and we have gotten lots of really positive feedback on our parade debut…

At this point, I would like to recognize our three parade sponsors. These are local businesses that believed that our entry at the parade was something worth supporting and helped us out paying for the parade costs.

We are very excited to be part of this HUGE opportunity to show everyone how big our community really is.
If you had a chance to stop by Woody’s this weekend and got your t-shirt stenciled, great! If not, don’t worry about it… just make sure to wear something green and we will be OK.

Details:
We will be meeting at the corner of Lincoln and Henry Streets.
Check in time is between 8 and 9:30 AM
The parade starts at 10 AM… you may start there with us or join us along the parade route.

Notes:
Parking will be scarce –  so make sure to get there early or get dropped off at the meeting point.
The parade will be long – It should take at least 4hrs to go over the whole route.
Make sure to be rested and bring a drink or two for the ride – I’ll have some drinks with me for the riders but it is unlikely to be enough for everyone.
No alcohol will be permitted… don’t even think about it! – the parade comity will throw us all out if a single person on our group is found drinking during the parade.

Lastly, consider the fact that this is our chance to show the city that we are not a bunch of criminals… SO, be on your best behavior, put on a good attitude and skate on. It should be fun!

We have decided to one up the green(ess) on this parade by recycling T-shirts instead of printing them… Less money, less junk and more FUN!

Woody’s Skate Park is offering a Spring Camp for skaters of all skill levels, ages 8 – 15.

The camp will run from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. and feature a variety of activities including:
• Stretching / Exercise
• Skateboard Maintenance Workshops
• Trick and Technique Clinic
• One-on-One Coaching
• Ramp Building Workshops

The cost is $125 for the week and includes:
• Instruction/Activities
• Morning and afternoon snacks
• Closing Party / BBQ for parents/kids
• Camp T-Shirt
• Online photo album of camp
